TUP as Scaffold
TUPは、理論の完成形ではない。
Trace Updating Practice.
それは、何かを一つの原理で説明するための体系というより、まだ閉じていない問いを扱うための足場である。
TUP is not a completed theory.
Trace Updating Practice.
Rather than a system for explaining everything through a single principle,
it is a scaffold for working with questions that remain open.
五つの部材
Five Components
現在、TUPの足場には五つの主要な部材がある。
At present, the TUP scaffold has five major components.
Trace
残る。だが、同じものが保存されるとは限らない。
Something remains, but not necessarily as something identical.
Tracing
辿る。なぞる。だが、Traceと同じではない。
To follow, trace, or retrace. But tracing is not the same as Trace.
Updating
変わるだけではない。配置や関係が組み替わる。
Not merely change, but reconfiguration.
Practice
何が起きるかだけでなく、どう進むか。
Not only what happens, but how to proceed.
ZURERU
同じにならない。differenceがZUREとして露出する。
Things do not remain identical. Difference becomes exposed as ZURE.
系列ではない
Not a Sequence
この五つは、階層ではない。
系列でもない。
中心も決めない。
The five are not a hierarchy.
They are not a sequence.
No single term is fixed as the center.
Traceが先にあることもある。
Tracingの途中でTraceが見つかることもある。
ZUREがUpdatingに効くこともある。
Practiceそのものが変わることもある。
そして、またTraceが残ることもある。
A Trace may already be there.
A Trace may become visible through tracing.
ZURE may matter to updating.
Practice itself may change.
And something may remain again as a Trace.
NAZORU
TUPの発生現場の一つは、漢字ドリルとお習字だった。
お手本がある。
それをNAZORU。
しかし、同じにはならない。
ZURERU。
そのZUREを含んで、なぞり方まで変わる。
そして、またTraceが残る。
One site from which TUP emerged was the kanji drill and Japanese calligraphy.
There is already a model.
We NAZORU it.
Yet it does not become identical.
It ZUREs.
The ZURE may change even how we proceed.
And another Trace may remain.
だから、Tracing Practiceではなく、
Trace Updating Practice
になった。
That is why it became not Tracing Practice, but
Trace Updating Practice.
Traceは答えではない
Trace Is Not the Answer
Traceは、Evidenceと同じではない。
Traceは、thingとも限らない。
Traceが何であるかは、relationによって変わりうる。
A Trace is not the same as Evidence.
A Trace is not necessarily a thing.
What works as a Trace may vary with the relation in which it appears.
だからTUPは、Traceを保存する理論でも、
Traceから真実を復元する理論でもない。
TUP is therefore neither a theory for preserving Trace,
nor a theory for reconstructing truth from Trace.
Traceをなぞり、ZUREを残し、Updatingを観察し、
必要なら足場そのものを組み替える。
It traces what remains,
keeps ZURE in view,
observes updating,
and, when necessary, reconfigures the scaffold itself.
最端
At the Edge
足場は、未来まで組まれている必要はない。
いま立つために必要なところまであればいい。
A scaffold does not need to extend into the future.
It only needs to reach far enough for us to stand here.
その最端には、
まだ次の横板はない。
At its edge,
the next plank is not yet there.
それでも、
nextは来ちゃう。
And yet,
the next just comes.
だから、TUPはnextを決めない。
nextを生まない。
nextのためのレールを先に敷かない。
TUP does not determine the next.
It does not produce the next.
It does not lay rails in advance for what comes next.
ただ、その都度、
最端でさらされる。
It is simply exposed,
again and again,
at the edge.
TUPは最端でnextにさらされる。
TUP is exposed to the next at the edge.
足場は、そのためにある。
That is what the scaffold is for.
