Abstract

This paper proposes the concept of the generative sequence as a pre-temporal structure underlying the emergence of time, value, and political processes. The generative sequence—composed of orientation, bias, êthos, support, and trace—is not a causal chain but a non-reversible ordering that precedes temporalization. Time arises when persistence stabilizes this sequence. This framework repositions key phenomena such as decision, nondecision, value, and power as cross-sectional traces of a prior generative process. The paper establishes the generative sequence as the foundational structure for a pre-temporal ontology of social and political phenomena.

0. Introduction

Time is typically assumed as the fundamental dimension within which events occur.
Processes are described as unfolding in time, and causal relations are understood as temporal sequences.

This paper challenges that assumption.

Time does not precede sequence.
