Abstract

This section develops the concept of embedded folding within Social ψ.

Folding, originally an internal operation, appears externally as traces (ΔZ) that are maintained within social structures.

These traces are sustained in two distinct modes:

• institutional maintenance (top-down, enforced)

• cultural maintenance (distributed, participatory)

Thus, time in society is not only maintained, but maintained differently.

In HEG-18-1, Social ψ was defined as the maintenance of externally inscribed time.

However, what is maintained is not folding itself.
