反転しない鏡、反転する理論
The Mirror That Does Not Invert, The Theory That Does
鏡は左右を反転すると言われる。
しかし鏡は左右を反転していない。
鏡が反転しているのは前後である。
鏡は空間を入れ替えてはいない。
ただ、観測者と鏡のあいだの方向を折り返しているだけである。
鏡そのものは反転していない。
反転しているのは、むしろ理論である。
人間の理論はしばしば順序を逆にする。
空間が方向を作る、と考える。
重力が上下を作る、と考える。
宇宙が空間を規定する、と考える。
しかし経験の順序は逆である。
まず落下がある。
落下が支えられると地上が生まれる。
地上に立つ身体が方向を持つ。
そこから初めて
上下
左右
が生まれる。
鏡は何も反転していない。
むしろ鏡は、理論がどこで反転しているのかを示している。
鏡像とは、理論が現実を取り違える場所である。
鏡は反転しない。
理論は反転する。

The Theory That Does
A mirror is often said to reverse left and right.
Strictly speaking, it does not.
What a mirror reverses is front and back.
A mirror does not rearrange space.
It simply reflects the direction between the observer and the mirror surface.
The left–right axis remains untouched.
In this sense, the mirror itself does not invert anything essential.
What inverts is the theory.
Human theories frequently reverse the order of experience.
They assume that space produces direction.
They assume that gravity produces up and down.
They assume that the structure of the universe precedes orientation.
But the order of experience is different.
First there is falling.
When falling is supported, the ground appears.
When a body stands on the ground, orientation emerges.
Only then do we speak of
up and down,
left and right.
The mirror itself does not invert the world.
Rather, it quietly reveals where theory has inverted reality.
A mirror image is therefore not merely an optical phenomenon.
It is a small philosophical instrument.
It shows that what appears reversed in the mirror
is often the order of our thinking.
